Hi everyone, today we will see a showdown between two popular sales channels – WooCommerce Vs Magento. Obviously, both of these services are popular for a reason, but which is best for you? Let’s jump in and find out.
Easily the most in-depth system of the two, Magento allows its users to run large scale eCommerce operations, with all the flexibility and customization they need. It can handle thousands of products with different currencies, payments systems, multiple languages, and multiple storefronts. So let’s jump in and look at some of its key features. What’s great about Magento is that it is very flexible and customizable, so you have the freedom to create the store you want.
Rich in features it also boasts a huge community of users who create plugins and extensions, as well as offering help and support. Magento is the most powerful system of the two and can handle thousands of orders. So if you’ve got a large Ecommerce store, this one could be perfect for you. On top of that Magento has strong SEO functionality.
So what does WooCommerce offer?
The default storefront design is clean and simple, but also highly customizable with hundreds of available themes. You can also add other stores, like Amazon Integration or Magento eBay integration. WooCommerce supports PayPal for accepting payments. They’ve also got a variety of specific payment gateway extensions.
With the WooCommerce reporting tool, you can keep on top incoming sales and reviews as well as shop performance, all from WordPress backend. It also has excellent blogging capabilities, thanks to WordPress. There’s also no limit to the number of products and categories and its very SEO friendly. So that’s the pros of both platforms. But that’s not the end of the comparison!

WooCommerce Vs Magento – Cons
In the above part, we looked at some of the strengths of these two platforms. Now we’re going to take a look at some of their weaknesses.
First up is Magento. Now while Magento is impressively in-depth this means it does take a lot of learning to get to grips with the software. This means not only you need to spend a lot of time locked down in learning-mode but it means it can take a while to build a good looking store. And because it’s so powerful, hosting can be expensive. You may need a dedicated server to handle it. Add-ons are also much more expensive than those available on other platforms.
Want support? If you do it will cost.
The Enterprise version starts at $14,420 a year. Premium Enterprise starts at $49,990 a year. And finally, because it’s open-source you need to be able to code or to bring someone in to help. Good Magento developers are often much pricier than average ones.
So then, how does the WooCommerce fair?
Unfortunately, WooCommerce lacks the high-end features to support very large stores making it more suited to smaller or medium-sized operations. It also has more paid extensions, so while cheaper on the outset, the costs can potentially add up. It doesn’t have a free support option. You have to stay on top of updates yourself. And finally, it’s very popular which in turn makes it a popular target for hackers. So if you go with WooCommerce make sure you look into extra security measures.
So then, what’s the verdict?
Both systems are very flexible in design, but in terms of power, Magento etches ahead. If you’re a developer who has the skill to make a beautiful store than this is most probably the best option. But WooCommerce could well be the better solution for someone with a smaller store who lacks the skills to develop their own features. Remember it’s far more expensive to find a Magento developer because they need to know the system.
Now just in terms of SEO who comes out top?
Well, that award goes to WooCommerce which has the edge because it is supported by WordPress.
